just consider a rumor
- surely the UW is rolling out Vista - or finished rolling out Vista, right?
- and many Washington State government accounts, I would suspect are rolling
out Vista.
names of the innocent omitted -

> No plans for Vista even with SP1.
I'm in the ZENworks business too. It's remarkable that no (!)
Windows Vista deployments are executed. And I mean none.
I checked with other Novell partners over here and there it's
the same. Just deploying Windows XP with ZEN imaging and
ENGL, doing MSI repackaging, training and consultancy is only
what's being asked for and is a very good busines.
But Vista: no.
When I did a ZCM/ZEN10 session for about 150 people a
couple of months ago with Ron van Herk, read his blogs
on Cool blogs if you don't who he is, we asked a couple
of questions on Vista. No one (partners, small and big
customers were in the audience) is doing anything with
Vista at the moment. No one. No plans after the release of
SP1 either. I've never seen that before.
Last week a Dutch journalist pinged me whether I know
any (!) customer deploying Windows Vista or who had
deployed Vista. He had been looking for days and even
Microsoft could not point out any (!) customer to him.
>From a software packaging perspective it's a big task to
check every single software package for Vista compliancy.
E.g. COM registration works very different on Vista. And many
applications still use COM and will use COM for a long time.
So organization aren't looking forward to that either. Last
time I worked with a 500 user company migrating from
Windows 2000 to XP, it took them a year to check their
apps and they're very skilled and good equipped.
> It will be interesting to see what happens with the June
> 30th deadline for Windows XP
Indeed. Over here people already started talking about
Windows 7 / Vienna and probably will wait for that since
rumors are Microsoft will speed up because of Vista and deliver it in 2009.
Some don't want to wait at all, don't
see that as an alternative at all and start looking at
alternatives. Which is good. Choose is good.

Just so you know my bias - I bought Toshiba Laptop a year ago Feb 07. +1 gig
RAM 1.6GHz Intel processor
Vista so slow, I put openSUSE for a dual boot, and haven't used vista since
last June, just too painfully slow.
WARNING - I only spent half a day trying to remove all 3rd party programs I
thought might be slowing things down. I just didn't want to spend any more
time, nor purchase software, trying to find tune up tricks for Vista.
I just upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3 and it is even FASTER than before - I know
that MS only users will not believe an upgrade actually improves
performance, but it really did. No secret, as this was a goal and has been
written about in many trade mags.
